Applications for Custom Aerospace Components

Aviation Custom MachiningLarge quantities of components go into a single aircraft. These components are manufactured via sheet metal fabrication, injection molding processes, 3D printing, and CNC machining.

CNC machining is not only used to create end-use components like bushings, hinges, clamps, and custom parts. The process is essential in aerospace research and development, allowing engineers to create, test, and edit prototypes quickly.

5-Axis Machining

The aerospace industry utilizes 5-axis CNC machining technology because it can work with incredibly intricate and precise shapes. It can achieve geometries not possible through 3- or 4-axis technology, which would require repeated fixturing to attain the same shape. With 5-axis machines, operators can machine nearly every visible surface at once, reducing setup times and improving accuracy while reducing the overall cost to the customer.

The 5-axis machine also improves tool life and surface finish of components. This is because 5-axis cutting tools are shorter, significantly reducing high-speed cutting vibrations that might interfere with the quality of the finish.
